Located on the southeast coast of Massachusetts on Cape Cod, Mashpee is 66 miles southeast of Boston, 70 miles west of Providence, 10 miles east of Falmouth and 10 miles west of Hyannis. Mashpee is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the Commonwealth. It was originally an Indian Village. It was an area set aside by the Plymouth Colony as a home for the Indians displaced by the new towns being built on their ancestral lands. It was incorporated as a Town in 1870. The Wampanoag Tribe continues to play a significant role in defining the character of the community. Mashpee is one of the most gifted Cape communities with natural beauty. With over five miles of sandy beaches on Nantucket and Vineyard Sounds, extensive water frontage on Waquoit and Popponesset Bays, four of the largest freshwater ponds on Cape Cod, three championship golf courses of New Seabury and Willowbend and numerous other visitor amenities such as the nationally recognized Mashpee Commons project, it is a prime resort, seasonal home and retirement community offering both a relaxed pace of life and a complete range of services. The Town has 1,000 plus acres of conservation lands as well as South Cape Beach, the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and The Trustees of Reservations’ Lowell Holly and Mashpee River Reservations. In addition, 2,200 acres in Mashpee have been proposed for inclusion in a new National Wildlife Refuge. All of these efforts are intended to insure that the Town remains true to its Native American heritage, maintains its economic vitality and protects its natural resources and the sense of tranquility Points of Interest: Willowbend Golf Course, New Seabury Golf Courses, Quashnet Valley Golf Course New Seabury Marina, Half Tide Marina South Cape Beach, Attaquin Park Concerts and Shopping in Mashpee Commons Professional golf and tennis tournaments National Wildlife Refuge trails and tours Mashpee River Woodlands Lowell Holly Museum Boch Center for the Performing Arts Mashpee Night at the Pops Art Shows The Wampanoag Pow Wow Festivals and Flea Markets Mashpee Wampanoage Indian Museum Cape Cod Childrens’ Museum Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod
